Foolish Lesson #2: You are One Part of a Greater Whole #1329

Here is one of the biggest lies you will ever hear: "My opinion is the only important one. Others aren't as dedicated/thoughtful/sincere as I am. So everyone should listen to me."

Let's explain just why that is a lie:

1. It contains several ego-centric statements. If you compare yourself to other people and you always believe that you are more intelligent, pure, honest, or anything similar, then your claims are based on your ego. It might not hurt to take time for self examination. Furthermore, you may benefit by reconsidering the ways in which you look at other people. Ask yourself why you criticize and look down on others.

2. If you think that you are the only good person, then either your opinion of humanity is quite negative, or your thoughts about yourself are too positive. Decide to believe that your thoughts are no longer the only things which matter. Choose to reconsider the ways you judge other people and humanity as a whole. Strive to become more focused on seeing the good in other people.

No matter who you are or who you are trying to become, there is something you must realize. You are not the only force of good in a world filled with evil. No, you are one part of a much larger system. Even if you are already achieving amazing things, please be aware that the future of humanity is not completely dependent on you. The world existed before you were born, and it will keep going even after you die.
